Genuine Discipleship, Session 2-A
January 13th, 2023
Addendum to the teaching of Session Two on January 12th, 2023
- Purpose of the sequence of “Genuine Discipleship, Growth to Maturity and Transformation”. We cannot arrive at discipleship without growth, which will not happen with change.
- Ephesians 4 and the ministries in operation in the church to help us grow toward ‘mature manhood’ as believers.
- God’s understanding is infinite and He desires to share it with us: Psalm 147:5-8
- The brevity of life and viewing life from God’s perspective: Psalm 39:4, James 4
- Mark 4, the purpose of parables, and why only the Seeker gets to know the depth of the truth. “If anyone” of John 14 is the invitation to all to come and seek the Lord.
- Paul persecuted believers, then knew what it was to pursue God with the same intensity, encouraged others to do so, and then was persecuted himself. Thus, the weight of ‘pursue’ in I and II Timothy. (active, intentional, aggressive, focused)
- Our orientation to the Word and God: ‘tremble’ of Isaiah 66, with humility
- As we pursue God and taste of the Word and God’s goodness, we will want more.
- Those who desire to please God will find their answers in the Word: II Peter 1:1-3
- Ephesians 4:11-15 Colossians 1:28-29 Psalm 147:5-8 Psalm 39:4-7 James 4:13-15 Mark 4:11-12 Psalm 34:8, 81:10. 119:103, 131 I Peter 2:1-3 Hebrews 4:1-12 Isaiah 66:1-5 I Thess. 2:9-13
