E. Key imperatives and significance: charge, teach, set an example, practice, persist
F. Use of ‘mapping’ to study key words: speech, conduct, love, faith, purity
2. Overview and general theme of Chapter 5: Specific groups of people
A. Indication of state of the church at the time of the writing
B. Exhortation to older men, younger men, older women, younger women
C. Honoring those who are truly widows
D. Determining ‘true widows’ and why that was an issue and important

3. Qualifications for widows to be cared for:

E. Discuss: what can we take away from so much time being dedicated to this issue

A. Meaning of ‘counted worthy of double honor’

C. Proper way to deal with accusations
D. Correct way to handle issues with elders who are sinning
5. Another ‘charge’ personally to Timothy for guidance and instruction:
A. Don’t be hasty in making decisions
B. Reflexive: ‘Keep yourself pure’ (James 1:27)
C. Dealing with his personal issues – stomach problems
D. Discuss: ‘Flavor and tone’ of the epistle…do you get the sense Timothy is under great pressure? Able to handle all this? What do we hear of him hereafter?
